A man has been charged with a terrorism offense after a routine traffic stop in Sydney's southwest led to a raid on his home. The incident began when police pulled over a Toyota sedan on Dargan Street, Yagoona, on December 31. During the search, they allegedly found drugs, cash, and three mobile phones. The 31-year-old man was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with supplying prohibited drugs, dealing with proceeds of crime under $5000, and using a non-compliant light vehicle. He was refused bail and appeared in court on January 1, where he was granted conditional bail. After examining the mobile phones, police discovered violent extremist material, which led to a raid on a home in Bass Hill around 6 am the next day. During the raid, they seized more mobile phones, storage devices, and a knife. The man was then charged with possessing violent extremist material and possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit. He was again refused bail and appeared at Bankstown Local Court, where he was granted conditional bail to return to court on March 3.
