Samsung's Next Galaxy Book Edge: A Performance Leap?
Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Book Edge laptop might offer a significant performance boost compared to its predecessor. The key to this potential leap lies in Qualcomm's newly unveiled Snapdragon X2 Elite processor. Early benchmarks of this chip have been released, revealing promising speed gains.
The YouTube channel Hardware Canucks recently tested the ASUS Zenbook A14, which features the Snapdragon X2 Elite (X2E-88-100). It's important to note that this was a pre-production unit running early drivers and firmware. The chip was tested at 31W, slightly surpassing Apple's M5 processor at 26W.
In the Cinebench 2024 multi-core test, the Snapdragon X2 Elite chip achieved an impressive 1,432 points. This translates to a 48.7% speed increase over the Snapdragon X Elite and a 24.2% boost compared to Apple's M5 processor. The single-core test yielded 146 points, a 35.2% improvement over the Snapdragon X Elite (108 points). However, it fell short of the M5's single-core performance, being 27% lower.
Additionally, the Snapdragon X2 Elite completed Blender and Handbrake tasks faster than both the Snapdragon X Elite and the M5. Yet, the M5 maintained a significant lead in DaVinci Resolve 20.3. These benchmark results suggest that if the next-generation Galaxy Book Edge adopts the X2 Elite chip, it could offer a substantial performance upgrade.
For context, the X2E-88-100 is the second chip variant in Qualcomm's new X2 laptop processor family, introduced in September 2025. Built on TSMC's 3nm technology and powered by third-generation Oryon CPU cores, it boasts 18 cores in total. These include 12 prime cores running up to 4.7 GHz and 6 performance cores running up to 3.4 GHz. Other features include a powerful X2-90 GPU and an NPU capable of up to 80 TOPS.
